1. Prasasti Butok

Kerajaan Majapahit ini meski merupakan kerajaan besar dengan dampak yang begitu luas, namun hanya sedikit meninggalkan prasasti. Sampai dikala ini hal ini juga masih menjadi pertanyaan, apakah memang prasasti Kerajaan Majapahit ini belum dapat ditemukan ataukah memang Kerajaan Majapahit kurang memperhatikan pesan kepada masa depan. Sehingga sumber informasi sejarah Kerajaan Majapahit ini sangat sedikit, yang salah satunya ialah Prasasti Butok (1244 M). Prasasti Butok terkenal juga disebut dengan Prasasti Gunung Butak. Prasasti Butak ini diyakini dikeluarkan atau dibentuk oleh Raden Wijaya yang berarti juga dibentuk pada masa berdirinya Kerajaan Majapahit. Prasasti Butok ini diperkirakan dibentuk segera sesudah Raden Wijaya berhasil naik tahta. Prasasti Butok ini bibuat untuk mengenang insiden runtuhnya Kerajaan Singhasari dan usaha Raden Wijaya dalam mendirikan Kerajaan Majapahit.

2. Kidung Harsawijaya dan Kidung Panji Wijayakrama

Kidung Harsawijaya ini berisi ihwal dongeng keruntuhan Kerajaan sebelum Majapahit yaitu Kerajaan Singasari. Kerajaan Singasari sendiri sering disebut sebagai cikal bakal dari Kerajaan Majapahit yang dibangun Raden Wijaya. Sedangkan Kidung Panji Wijayakrama ialah berisi ihwal dongeng usaha Raden Wijaya (baca : Asal Usul dan Biografi Raden Wijaya) dikala menghadapi musuh-musuhnya. Kebanyakan musuh yang dilawan Raden Wijaya ialah beberapa kerajaan lain di masa-masa awal mendirikan Kerajaan Majapahit.

Kitab Pararaton ialah termasuk salah satu sumber informasi sejarah Kerajaan Majapahit selanjutnya. Kitab Pararaton juga disebut Kitab Pustaka Raja. Kitab Pararaton ini adalahs ebuah kitab sastra Jawa yang memuat ihwal pemerintahan Kerajaan Singasari dan Kerajaan Majapahit. Kitab ini tidak begitu tebal, hanya berisikan 32 halaman yang seukuran kertas folio. Secara lebih detail, Kitab Pararaton berisi ihwal dongeng raja-raja pada masa Singasari dan Majapahit. Kitab Pararaton yang berbahasa Jawa ini diperkirakan keluar pada tahun 1481. Kitab Pararaton ini menyerupai menjadi sumber informasi sejarah Kerajaan Majapahit yang paling banyak dipakai untuk merekontruksi sejarah Kerajaan Majapahit sesudah Kitab Negarakertagama.

Selain kitab Pararaton, sumber informasi sejarah Kerajaan Majapahit yang berbentuk kitab ialah Kitab Negarakertagama. Kitab Negarakertagama atau Kitab Deswarnana ialah kitab yang berbahasa Jawa yang menjadi sumber informasi sejarah Kerajaan Majapahit yang paling utama. Kitab Negarakertagama diperkirakan dibentuk atau keluar pada tahun 1365. Kitab ini ditemukan oleh ilmuwan dari Belanda pada 1894. Dalam sejarahnya, Kitab Negarakertagama ini hampir dibakar oleh Tentara KNIL. Kitab Negarakertagama ini berisi dongeng ihwal perjalanan raja Hayam Wuruk yang berhasil membawa ke masa kejayaan Kerajaan Majapahit. Daerah kekuasaan Majapahit juga dibahas dalam Kitab Negarakertagama.

Kitab Negarakertagama ini sudah rapi dan sistematis yang terbagi dalam beberapa pupuh. Pupuh 1 hingga 7 berisi ihwal dongeng para raja beserta keluarganya. Pupuh 8 hingga pupuh 16 bercerita ihwal kota dan wilayah-wilayah Majapahit. Pupuh 17 hingga pupuh 39 menceritakan ihwal perjalanan keliling ke Lumajang. Pupuh 40 hingga dengan 49, berisi ihwal silsilah Raja Hayam Wuruk. Sedangkan pupuh 45 hingga pupuh 49 berisi ihwal kisah raja-raja Majapahit mulai dari Kertarajasa Jayawardhana hingga raja Hayam Wuruk.
