Miki jadi lambang The Walt Disney Company serta diri Walt Disney sendiri ibarat diutarakan oleh istri Walt, Lillian. Miki serta Walt berkembang berbarengan serta jadi cermin kepribadian mereka. Presiden AS Jimmy Carter pernah memberikan " Mickey Mouse is the symbol of goodwill, surpassing all languages and cultures. When one sees Mickey Mouse, they see happiness. " (Micky Mouse adalah lambang kebaikan melampaui seluruhnya bhs serta budaya. Waktu seorang lihat Miki, ia lihat keceriaan) Siluet kepala Miki yang terbagi dalam suatu bulat besar juga sebagai " kepala " serta dua bulat kecil juga sebagai " pendengaran " jadi logo untuk perusahaan dibawah naungan The Walt Disney Company yang menyandang nama Disney. Awalannya, Miki di buat juga sebagai pengganti Oswald the Lucky Rabbit yang di buat oleh Walt Disney serta Ub Iwerks untuk Charles Mintz dari Universal Studios tetapi mereka dipecat waktu meminta biaya yang lebih tinggi untuk Oswald yang popular serta mulai semenjak itu Oswald digambar oleh orang lain. 

Untuk kesinambungan perusahaan, Walt mesti mencari ciri-ciri gres serta ide wacana Micky Mouse nampak waktu Walt ada diatas kereta. Nama ciri-ciri itu dikala sebelum dinamakan Miki adalah Mortimer tetapi istrinya, Lillian Disney, kurang menyenanginya. Saat ini, nama Mortimer Tikus digunakan untuk ciri-ciri musuh Miki dalam memperebutkan Mini Tikus. 

Miki serta Mini Mouse nampak untuk pertama kalinya dalam Plane Crazy yang launching pada 15 Mei 1928. Tetapi, The Walt Disney Company lalu merayakan " hari lahir " Micky Mouse pada 18 November 1928, yakni tanggal launching animasi Steamboat Willie, film animasi Micky Mouse yang pertama kalinya memakai nada. 

Micky Mouse meraih kejayaannya diawali dari th. 1930-an sampai 1950-an. Tetapi, pada awal th. 1950-an posisi kejayaannya makin lama tergeser oleh Tom and Jerry yang memiliki rating serta pengagum lebih tinggi dari Micky Mouse serta Silly Symphonies. Pada th. 1955, kejayaan Micky Mouse betul-betul tergeser oleh rekannya yang keduanya sama ada di Walt Disney, Donald Duck yang juga memiliki pengagum semakin banyak dari Miki.
